If you love really good tamales, with their corn-rich toasty masa flavor, you simply must try the offerings from Tucson Tamale Company. They have tons of varieties, including traditional red chile–pork or potato-chorizo, plus fun flavors like chicken pot pie, new Delhi (with a samosa-ish filling), or sweet flavors like St. Valentine (chocolate-cherry) or Tahiti Dessert (pineapple-mango-coconut). They also have vegetarian and vegan options. If you can’t make up your mind, order a sampler combo—like the breakfast sampler, dessert sampler, meat sampler, or vegan sampler. They’d make great gifts, too.The tamales arrive frozen and keep in the freezer for up to six months; they microwave perfectly in just a few minutes. When we tried them in our Test Kitchen, we were blown away at the quality: Simply put, these tamales are really good. We’d be more than happy to have these on hand for a busy night’s dinner! (In fact, these tamales were so good that we gobbled them up right away… I couldn’t even snap a picture of them once heated.) The website lists nutrition information for all the tamales, and while some fall more into the splurge category, several are nicely low in calories, saturated fat, and sodium.
